The typical hospital is the target of seven HAI-related lawsuits per year with an average settlement of $1.5 million, for a total of $10.5 million per hospital. When you need proof - our reports provide you with the information you need to succeed. Our data leads to Best Practices....find out why our process is the key to best practices
Hospitals have a lot at stake in rectifying infection problems. Medicare will stop paying on some infection cases and the CDC says of the 1.7 million yearly HAIs - 22% occur at the site of surgery. Lawyers are putting doubt in jurys minds when there is no documentation on the environmental conditions in the OR - our certification process provides the information you need. Everyone at your facility benefit. According to Hospital Review, now that 27 states require hospitals to report incidence of HAIs, the number of litigation cases and actual awards is expected to rise. The same publication states that the typical hospital is the target of seven HAI-related lawsuits per year with an average settlement of $1.5 million, for a total of $10.5 million per hospital. Facility Managers benefit from the certification process because it provides them with proof that the HVAC systems are properly engineered to provide a safe environment in ORs and Special Procedure Rooms. Risk Managers need the certification information for legal cases and understand the value of Third Party Inspections. Infection Control Managers (preventionists) need the certification to make sure the rooms are properly calibrated and not compromised by migrating bacteria, improper humidity balance, fungi, high skin cell counts, or even MRSA. The data presented in our reports provide information you need but have never seen before - you can now benchmark with "real" measurements.
Air flow in an operating room is extremely important, the systems are designed to move air in different directions and not directly down on the patient undergoing the surgical procedure. We test each procedure room for positive pressure at the doors to make sure air is not entering from adjacent areas. In addition, we diagram the air direction coming from the ceiling using smoke testing in each room. As part of our report, we include the air flow as shown on the attached sample. We also mark the location of the return vents. If there is a problem with the air in any room it is immediately detected and we notify the facility. At one facility we noted a high reading of airborne dust particles in an OR where eye surgery was performed. The facility was notified immediately and the cause of the high reading was repaired, the area retested and cleaned. This type of information is important to the overall goal of the hospital or surgical center. Our testing provides useful information. Don't think this type of testing is for you....think again, the data we provide can save lives, reduce costs and keep you out of court in some circumstances. We have found problems in many tested rooms and outlined the problems with the facility, allowed them to correct and then proceeded with the certification process. Don't miss the boat in protecting your facility, your facility reputation and the lives of your patients. Contact us today and we will provide you with the answers and a fast proposal. All we need are the number of rooms (ORs, Special Procedure rooms such as Cardiac Cath, LDRs, etc.). If you need a copy of our Frequently Asked Questions - email us! |
